2024? Year of the Blue Dragon! 

In East Asia, each year was divided into 12 years and represented by 12 animals. 

The order is: Rat - Ox - Tiger - Rabbit - Dragon - Snake - Horse - Sheep - Monkey - Chicken - Dog - Pig.

There's an interesting myth behind this. 

Once upon a time there was a competition to rank the animals. The first to arrive would become a god of the 12 animal guardians.

Knowing this, the ox knew he was slow, so he set off to be the first to arrive.

But why wasn't the ox the first to arrive?

The answer is that the mouse rolled over the cow, climbed on top of her and then quickly jumped off at the arrival point to get there first.

In the end, the cow was the second animal to arrive and the tiger was the third. 

The rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog and pig followed until all twelve animals had arrived. 

And why was the cat left out?

The cat was too lazy to take part in the competition to become a god of the twelve animal guardians, so he asked the mouse to wake him up, but the mouse did not keep his promise. 

The cat became very angry with the mouse, and the mouse became afraid of the cat. 

In East Asia, there's an animal associated with the year you were born, and it's used to tell your fortune.  

The upcoming year 2024 is the Year of the Blue Dragon. 

The dragon is an imaginary animal that was once considered sacred, symbolising authority, power and kings.  As you can imagine, dragons have a very determined nature and never give up on a task until the very end.
