Seventeen sells 5.09 million copies of new album in one week...K-pop record
Group SEVENTEEN has set a new record for the first seven days of sales with their mini 11th album "SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN".
According to Hanteo Chart, a 30-day record sales aggregator, the cumulative sales of the album, which was released on the 23rd, are 5,091,887 copies. It is the first K-pop album in history to sell more than 5 million copies in the first day.
K-pop records for first-day sales have been getting shorter this year. Stray Kids' third full album "Five Star" sold about 4.62 million copies in June, and SEVENTEEN's mini 10th album "FML" sold about 4.55 million copies in April. In fourth place is NCT Dream's "ISTJ" (3.65 million), released last July, and in fifth place is BTS's 2020 album "Map of the Soul: 7" (3.38 million).
The reasons for the overall surge in K-pop album sales include the influx of new fans both domestically and abroad due to the activation of in-person performances such as world tour concerts, and the impact of promotional agency marketing related to album sales, such as winning tickets for fan signings and random photo cards.
Pledis, SEVENTEEN's agency, emphasized that "SEVENTEEN has sold a total of 1.043 million albums (including old copies) in Korea from January to September this year alone."
The title of the new album, "God of Music," is a dance song with an upbeat vibe. Immediately after its release, the song debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in 29 countries and regions, including Brazil and Singapore. It also held the top spot on Japan's Oricon Daily Album Rankings for three consecutive days from April 24-27.
