Korea Mint Unveils Second Design for Official BTS 10th Anniversary Commemorative Medal
- Applying new technology for the first time... Increasing product value
The Korea Mint today unveiled the second design of the official commemorative medal featuring artist portraits to mark the 10th anniversary of BTS's debut.
The Korea Mint and Hive (CEO Park Ji-won) released the first official commemorative medal in December last year to celebrate and commemorate the 10th anniversary of BTS's debut, and after a long period of preparation, the second design has been completed.
The main feature of the second commemorative medal is that the portraits of the members have been reinterpreted with ultra-fine lines and dots of at least 10 micrometers (μm, 1/100mm) and sculpted like a work of art. It is also designed to be essentially impossible to counterfeit by applying monetary security patterns and microscopic characters.
The gold medal depicts the entire body of BTS, while the silver medal features close-up portraits of individual members.
The Korea Mint developed a new technology that is being introduced for the first time in the world to specially engrave the meaning and value of the 10th anniversary of BTS's debut. The gold and silver coins were stretched as thin as paper and rolled into a laser-engraved mold to resemble actual banknotes, and were first applied in A5 and CD shapes.
The second official commemorative medal for the 10th anniversary of BTS's debut will be released in early September and sold simultaneously in Korea and abroad, and the sales plan and making video will be announced in early September through the Korea Mint shopping mall (www.koreamint.com) and Hive's official SNS channels.
The Korea Mint will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the commemorative medal to UNICEF to further commemorate the 10th anniversary and contribute to expanding the global influence of K-culture.
"It is very meaningful to introduce a medal commemorating the 10th anniversary of BTS's debut as a global artist for the second year in a row," said Ban Jang-sik, President of the Korea Mint. "The second commemorative medal will combine member portraits with new technology and will be an opportunity to promote the value of high-quality cultural products."
